Type 2 diabetes affects over 25.8 million Americans. In addition, 79 million Americans are pre-diabetic. Some are aware of their condition and others are not.
Most diabetes is managed with insulin shots which are painful and difficult. Others take dangerous and expensive drugs with negative side effects. This just isn’t sustainable. With the risk of heart attack, stroke, blindness, amputation, neuropathy, etc., it is a hideous disease that demands attention.
What is critical, however, is that it is 100% reversible.
Yes, I said it.
You can cure Type 2 diabetes and manage it, often without injectables and prescription medication. The cure for Type 2 diabetes is lifestyle modification. Firstly, it is recommended to “cut out the white stuff”. Eliminating sugary drinks and diet soda is a huge first step. Diet soda tricks the pancreas into thinking that it is having sugar.
These unhealthy sweeteners do far more harm than good.
The insulin floods into the pancreas, except there are no sugars to attack. The craving continues and this is why you may have had a diet soda and still craved something sweet. You may have seen others drinking a diet soda alongside eating a candy bar, for example.
The sweeteners trigger the desire for sugar. All of the macronutrients (fats, proteins, and carbohydrates) break down very slowly and these nutrients do not generate a high glucose level in the body.
With this said, there are many high glycemic index carbohydrates. People love them and eat them. What happens is blood sugar elevates, insulin comes in, and then any sugars that cannot be used for immediate fuel get stored as fat. This is what is creating diabetes and obesity. Another suggestion is to avoid fruit juices which contain a lot of sugar as well as highly processed foods.
For a short time, it is also beneficial to cut out white flour (bread, pasta) as well as white rice.
If you want to indulge occasionally in carbohydrates, there is a solution.
Guilt-free carb consumption does exist. For guilt-free indulgence, check this out.
But for those that do suffer from diabetes, the side effects of injectables and prescription drugs can be horrific. They also ultimately become ineffective. It is important to find an accessible and sustainable solution to diabetes versus masking it with things that are harming our bodies.
To help combat diabetes in a more safe and long-term way, look to intermittent fasting. It is truly a miracle and can drastically change your glucose levels as well as your weight.
I eat lower glycemic index carbs, lean meats and fats and when I had my blood work done, I was 3 points away from being pre-diabetic.
You can eat well, be active, and avoid high glycemic carbs and still be at risk. The answer to this problem is intermittent fasting.
My A1 C from a year or so ago was 6.2. The number considered to be pre-diabetic is 6.5. After intermittent fasting for one year, it dropped to 5.7.
I didn’t change anything else in my regimen except intermittent fasting. It was an absolute miracle. My numbers dropped by nearly 10 points and I was no longer at risk for diabetes. Intermittent fasting took me completely out of the danger zone.
This was LIFE changing.
I cannot recommend it more. Changing what you eat is important, but by changing when you eat, can significantly impact your overall health.
Intermittent fasting can support your body in literally turning the corner and getting rid of type 2 diabetes and all of the pharmaceutical medications that go with it.
It is an eating pattern that cycles between fasting and eating. During the fasting periods, you eat nothing at all except for water, tea, or coffee. On extended fasts you can add in some bone broth. The 16/8 pattern involves skipping breakfast and restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours, such as 1–9 p.m.
Then you fast for 16 hours in between. It is accessible and attainable.
It will improve your overall health and help you to avoid or even cure Type 2 diabetes which affects so many of us. Please let me know how I can help.
