Entrepreneur Mindset vs. Employee Mentality
A lot of people decide that they want to start their own business. They want to be owners of their own lives. They want time and financial freedom. However, they start this venture with an employee mentality and not an entrepreneurial one.
Employees are used to incredible structure. Their entire day is structured. Their calendar is dictated by their superiors. They are told what work to do. They have deadlines imposed upon them and basically every second of their day is controlled.
An entrepreneur mentality means being motivated on the inside.
Taking ownership of their time is crucial – as important as it is to take ownership of their ideas. Entrepreneurs hold a lot of responsibility, but they also receive a greater reward.
What entrepreneurs are known for is creating their own value. That’s what makes them stand out. They follow their own rules, they set their own time, they are their own boss.
Another thing that sets entrepreneurs apart from the rest, is their innovation. In order to be successful, they have to be doing something new and different. Entrepreneurs are creators and problem solvers. They take ownership of their success as well as their difficulties.
When they aren’t getting what they want, they have to look in the mirror. The buck stops with them. They need to be in charge of their own time and their own calendar. The motivation needs to come from inside of them in order to be productive and efficient.
They need to own their passion and be willing to take action. Resilience is also key as not everything will come to fruition on the first try. An employee works a certain number of hours and makes a certain amount of dollars. An entrepreneur has more upfront risk and cost, but they have the potential for a bigger return.
Entrepreneurs are willing to take risks and push the boundaries, but they are also able to bounce back.
More than that, they are able to find the positive in every negative. A challenge is seen as just that – a challenge, not a barrier. When they are able to find a solution where one hasn’t been found before, there is a sense of accomplishment and pride. It is encouraging and pushes them to tackle the next challenge and the next.
The entrepreneur mindset is important to continue as perseverance and resiliency are the ultimate components of success. Sometimes entrepreneurship can feel isolating or overwhelming, but all of the risks are worth the reward.
