Antioxidants

As you may know, I am a strong advocate for gut health and probiotics. 

I like to call the gut, the second brain, as so much starts and finishes there. Equally as important are antioxidants. They affect your organs and your energy, and we want to be operating at an abundance of energy rather than a deficit. If the body doesn’t have the energy it needs, then it doesn’t do a good job of getting rid of waste and toxicity. 

That leads to both declining health and the acceleration of aging. 

So how to detoxify and energize the body? It is important to find carcinogen fighters, antioxidants, immune system enhancers and ingredients that purify, build and protect the digestive system.

Antioxidants are a key factor in energizing the body. 

They are natural compounds that protect cells. Total health depends on healthy cells because cells are the building blocks of life. But here’s the problem in a nutshell. Our cells are under constant attack by free radicals. As we age, free radicals begin to damage the cells by oxidizing them, much like the weather causes metal to rust. 

Of course, poor cellular health weakens the immune system, and that means the body loses its defenses. That opens the door to accelerated aging and all kinds of degenerative diseases. The good news is that antioxidants in our food and our supplements have the power to neutralize the oxidizing effects of free radicals.

What are free radicals anyways? 

They’re a by-product of our own respiration. 

We breathe oxygen to generate the energy that drives all the necessary chemical reactions to sustain life. That’s respiration. Free radicals also come from the air, sunlight, food and drink, various personal care products we use daily, and yes, from emotional stress. 

There are more than eleven hundred different families of free radicals coming from all these sources. How are they damaging? Free radicals are unstable molecules with an uncoupled electron. This makes them rogue cells. Like everything else in our body, they will seek homeostasis, or balance. 

So, they bounce around trying to rob an electron from healthy cells in order to complete themselves. 

When they do this, the cell that they robbed will break down. When that cell duplicates, it duplicates a similar damaged cell. As cells go, so goes the body. The idea is to keep enough antioxidants in your system at all times. There are a few foods high in antioxidants that are good options (grapes, berries, onions, garlic, etc.) 

However, you have to do more than just eat these foods

Supplementing is necessary because there just isn’t enough antioxidant power in food alone anymore. Further, today’s times produce more free radicals than ever before, and we need to counteract that. The antioxidant that I love is called Antioxidant

Antioxidant’s abundance of antioxidants comes from three powerful sources: maritime pine bark, grapeseed extract, and curcuminoids. It also includes the usual antioxidants that we all know about – vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene.

I use Antioxidant because the consumption of turmeric alone isn’t sufficient. You need at least 1 gram of curcumin per day which is difficult to achieve just using turmeric spice in your foods.
